How Does the Dental Implant Process Work?
Every patient's journey is a little different, but most implant treatments follow a clear and predictable path. For most patients, the complete implant process takes between 3 and 6 months. Here's what you can expect when you choose Willoughby Prime Dental.
Step 1 — Initial Consultation
We'll take the time to understand your dental history, your goals, and any concerns you may have. Our team will examine your teeth and gums, discuss your options openly, and let you know whether any preparatory treatment might be needed before implant placement.
Step 2 — 3D Imaging & Treatment Planning
Before any procedure begins, we use advanced 3D imaging to map the structure of your jaw with precision. This technology allows us to assess bone depth and density, identify the ideal placement position for each implant, and anticipate any anatomical considerations specific to you.
Step 3 — Implant Placement
The placement appointment is typically straightforward. The area is numbed with local anesthesia, and sedation is available if you'd prefer to feel more relaxed during the procedure. The titanium implant post is placed directly into the jawbone in a single visit.
Step 4 — Healing & Osseointegration
Over the following weeks and months, the implant gradually fuses with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Healing timelines vary from person to person, typically ranging from 6 weeks to a few months.
Step 5 — Abutment & Crown Placement
Once your implant has fully integrated, we attach a small connector piece called an abutment, which holds your final restoration in place. Your custom crown is then crafted to match the shape, size, and shade of your natural teeth.
Step 6 — Ongoing Care
Caring for your implant is simple: brush and floss as you normally would, and come in for your regular six-month checkups. We'll monitor the implant, the surrounding gum tissue, and your overall oral health at each visit.
